Understanding the biological lifecycle of your natural lashes is the first step toward maintaining a flawless and healthy gaze.

The Anatomy of Evolution

Each natural lash follows its own independent timeline. On any given day, your lashes are in various stages of development. This natural staggering is what ensures you always have a fringe of lashes, rather than losing them all at once.

The Anagen Phase (The Growth Stage) This is the active phase where the lash is securely attached to the blood supply. It typically lasts between thirty and forty-five days. During this time, the lash is at its most resilient.

The Catagen Phase (The Transition Stage) The hair follicle shrinks and the lash stops growing. This is a delicate bridge between growth and rest. If a lash is lost during this time, it will not begin to grow back until the entire cycle completes its course.

The Telogen Phase (The Resting Stage) This is the final period before the lash naturally sheds to make room for a new, healthy hair. It is a completely normal part of the body's regenerative process.

The Necessity of the Refill

Because your natural lashes shed at different intervals, a "full set" will naturally evolve as the days pass. To maintain the structural integrity and the aesthetic density of your bespoke design, regular maintenance is required.

At The Usual Lash, we recommend a refinement session every two to three weeks. This allows our artisans at our Westport and Darien locations to meticulously remove outgrown extensions and replace those that have reached the end of their natural term.
